In its efforts to promote internal audit profession in Tanzania, the Institute of Internal Auditors Tanzania (IIA) recently held a capacity building workshop for more than 30 Chief and Senior Internal Auditors from Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar.
Speaking during the workshop held at Bwawani Hotel Zanzibar, President of IIA Tanzania Mr Emmanuel Johannes applauded the revolutionary government
particularly the Ministry of Finance for its readiness and commitment to collaborate with the IIA Tanzania in building capacity of its internal auditors.
“Zanzibar’s Ministry of Finance has demonstrated an example that should be imitated by others. It is the Ministry of Finance that coordinated the entire
workshop even though was full sponsored by IIA Tanzania. The event could have been impossible without a priceless contribution by government officials
particularly, mr.Simai Simai.” Mr Johannes noted.
The president was also impressed by participants’ attendance and their strong confidence in IIA Tanzania as it is the only institute in the country whose mission is to prepare internal audit practitioners become world class practitioners..
Participants’ audience encompassed officials from various government authorities, agencies and departments most of them being from Ministry of
Finance in island’s government.
The one day workshop among other things aimed at building capacity to Chief Internal Auditors, senior internal auditors and many others involved in internal auditing with necessary and current skills in internal auditing profession.
The capacity building workshop is within the organization’s advocacy plan that is to be implemented this year.
Explaining about the advocacy Plan, Executive Secretary of IIA Tanzania Mr Kafaso Millinga noted that the institute is set to take its activities further by ensuring more internal auditors are becoming members and be more informed of the current issues emerging in the profession.
“Our mission clearly stands as we are determined to ‘revolutionize the internal Audit Profession in Tanzania by promoting the implementation of the International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF) in Tanzania’’. Mr Millinga highlighted.
He went on to say, “ we will be organizing workshops and seminars country wide, the aim is to take IIA Tanzania activities to all internal auditors and interested parties regardless of geographical location.
According to Mr Millinga, the institute has zones that will be targeted by the advocacy plan this year though limited resource is being cited as a bottleneck in realizing institute’s advocacy plan in its entirety.
“We have four zones as our area of concentrations; Lake Zone, Northern Zone, Southern Highlands and Central Zone. The Executive Secretary affirmed.
More so, “we wish to be organizing as many workshops and seminars as we can but resources are sometimes a challenge though this does not pour down our efforts of expanding our activities territory.” The Institute’s CEO admitted.
Plus the above, the Institute is under heavy preparation for its upcoming 8th annual internal audit conference to be held in Arusha. This year’s annual conference is set to attract seasoned professionals and speakers from within and outside the country.
IIA Tanzania as a brain child of IIA globally is a spear-header in certification, education, research and technological guidance for the internal audit profession in Tanzania by ensuring there is ethical culture among internal audit profession practitioners.
